Course Director, Sam Pugh

In addition to being Georgia Tech’s IEDC Course Director, Sam is a Project Manager with the Center for Economic Development Research (CEDR) at Georgia Tech’s Enterprise Innovation Institute (EI²).

His experience includes performing economic analyses; strength, weakness, opportunities, and threat (SWOT) analyses; community assessments; and incentive strategy development. His work also includes tourism investment validation studies and preparation of an annual statewide economic outlook. He has assisted on several projects including the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership (IMCP) initiative for the 15-county northwest Georgia region and a workforce analysis for a Georgia community completed through the Economic Development Research Program.

Before his career at Georgia Tech, Sam worked at the Georgia Department of Transportation managing a team of environmental planners. His team was responsible for managing and completing the environmental studies needed for the approval of federal-aid transportation projects. He has experience working on economic development transportation projects such as the Governor’s Road Improvement Program and the Atlanta Beltline Westside Trail. Sam holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Economics as well as two Bachelor’s degrees, one in English and one in Environmental Economics and Management, all from the University of Georgia.
